Kittie Klaw Workshop
4.30pm - 6.30pm @ Delicious
The aim of this workshop is to educate participants on the wide and varied genre of burlesque and to have a play with the ideas and methods of burlesquing. From gender-bending to exaggerated femininity we will examine the power behind the clever use of stereotypes, archetypes and ideals which burlesque theatre is based on.
Divided in to three sections:
-
Burlesque in Briefs - A Short History of the Genre and its Styles - Q & A discussion about roles, styles and influence in the modern scene.
-
The Role of Female Sexuality and Gender Roles in Burlesque - Q & A discussion about women in the lead roles, power and exploitation - Practical demo and activity on how to make the most of what you’ve got. This section plays with methods of physical illusion and presentation of the female form.
-
Playing with Stereotypes, Archetypes and Ideals - Practical demo and activity on lampooning and burlesquing. This section plays with gender-bending, satirising and exaggeration of sexy attributes.
The workshop is suitable for either male or female participants, and it is recommended that comfortable clothing and footwear is worn.
